Puri/Keonjhar: Two more colleges were closed sine die today following student unrest in the campuses ahead of the Stduents’ Union election.
Authorities of Samanta Chandra Sekhara (SCS) Autonomous College in Puri and Anandpur College in Keonjhar were declared sine die after sporadic violence reported in the campuses.
Tension prevailed in SCS Autonomous College after a few students staged protest and gheraoed the Principal over rejection of their candidatures.
Police later reached and brought situation under control. Last night, bombs were also hurled at girls’ hostel of the college.
In view of this, the college authorities declared the institute closed sine die and asked students to vacate hostels by 5 pm today.
Similarly, Anandpur college authorities canceled the elections and declared sine die after miscreants hurled bombs at the college damaging several properties last night.
Students’ Union elections of colleges and universities across the State will be conducted on October 11.
‘Why I stand for’ meeting will be held on October 10, a day before the polling. Polling will be held on October 11 between 8 am and 2 pm. Counting and declaration of results will be held on the day of polling. The elected candidates will take oath at 11 am on October 12.
