Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: BJD today accused Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy of betraying the people of Odisha and especially those of his own assembly constituency Gopalpur. Panigrahy was expelled from the party on Sunday for his alleged links with tainted IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak and his son. Party spokesperson Lenin Mohanty today accused Panigrahy of shielding Pathak and his son Akash. “The legislator claimed that his would be son-in-law was working in Tata Groups but the Tata Group has lodged a complaint of impersonation against Akash. This proved that Panigrahy backed the IFS officer’s son. The legislator cheated lakhs from unemployed youths of his constituency on pretext of providing jobs,” said Mohanty. Mohanty further accused Panigrahy of spending lakhs on his air travel at a time when Ganjam was reeling under Covid-19 pandemic. “He had spent lakhs during his stay at several posh hotels in the country. The MLA has betrayed the people of Odisha,” further alleged Mohanty. Panigrahy had earlier denied the allegations of anti-people activities and asked the ruling party to come up with concrete evidence to justify the claim.
