Police station in Odisha turns into marriage venue amid Covid-19 lockdown

Bargarh, April 1: Police station turned into a marriage venue for a young couple from Bargarh district amid the ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown. Pabitra Sahoo (28) of and Lakshmi Meher (24) of Ambapali on Tuesday turned up at Town police station and expressed their wish to get married. Though the couple who are in love for over a year was slated to get married at a local marriage registrar’s office, they decided to tie the know at the police station as the marriage registrar’s office was closed for the lockdown. The couple met the IIC of the police station Sadanand Pujahari who allowed them to marry at the police station. The couple was given sanitiser and masks before the groom tied a mangalsutra around the groom’s neck. Police also distributed biscuits in the police station as the sweet shops were closed. Later, the couple went to a nearby temple to seek blessings of a local goddess.
