Police-lawyer row: Lawyers intensify stir

Cuttack: Even as the CID Crime Branch started an inquiry into the alleged physical assault of lawyer by police personnel near the fish market at Nuabazar on August 28, the High Court Bar Association today decided to launch cease-work stir across Odisha till Wednesday demanding arrest of the accused cops.

The association also decided to meet Chief Minister, Law Minister and High Court Chief Justice to press their demands.

On September 4, the HC had asked the Crime Branch to probe into the police-lawyer scuffle after two PILs were filed seeking judicial inquiry into it.

Meanwhile, for the 11th consecutive day, the strike by lawyers of Cuttack city continued, thereby hampering the judicial activities in all the courts, including that of the High Court.

The lawyers are protesting the assault of lawyer Debi Prasanna Pattnaik by policemen.
