Bhubaneswar: A scuffle ensued between BJP Mahila Morcha activists and police personnel today while the former marched towards the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here protesting against the Chief Minister’s silence over Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy’s comments on Pipili gang-rape and murder verdict.
A large number of woman activists holding bangles marched towards Naveen Niwas. The situation turned ugly when the protestors tried to enter the CM’s residence breaking security barricades.
On Monday, the a BJP Mahila Morcha activists had gheraoed the Crime Branch (CB) Headquarters in Cuttack alleging that the investigating agency has diverted the investigation into the incident and the victim is yet to get justice due to negligence in the probe.
Police also detained several women protestors.
The protestors alleged that Patnaik being in charge of the Home Department is misusing the investigating agencies, the protestors demanded justice to the victim girl.
The 19-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped on November 28, 2011, had succumbed on June 21, 2012 after remaining semi-comatose at SCB medical in Cuttack, triggering State-wide massive public outrage.
Notably, a prime accused and his brother – Prashant Pradhan and Sukant Pradhan, allegedly involved in sensational gang-rape and murder of the girl in Pipili of Puri district in 2011-12, were acquitted by First Additional Sessions Court for want of evidence last week.
