Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police has so far arrested 114 habitual offenders and anti-socials to prevent burglary, theft and group clash ahead of Durga Puja in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty said that they have prepared a list of 500 habitual offenders and anti-socials and targets to nab them before the commencement of the festive season.
Out of the list, 114 persons have been booked under Section 110 of the CrPC so far.
Mohanty said almost all the zone ACPs and IICs have been directed to nab the criminals in their respective areas before puja season. The move is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and hassle-free Durga Puja.
This apart, police are going strong on the excise cases and nabbing the bootleggers and illegal firearm traders on a regular basis. The patrolling and picketing will be intensified and made more strategic at vantage points, as the festival season approaches, the Twin City police chief added.
In September, Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma issued circular to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and all district SPs to launch special drive against criminals to prevent burglary, theft and group clash ahead of Durga Puja.
The DGP had also asked the top cops to conduct night patrolling, blocking and inspect hotels to prevent any untoward incident during the festive seasons.
Police usually carry out special drives against anti-socials ahead of major festivals. Notorious criminals will be taken into custody to prevent any crime during the period.
