Pangolin rescued from quarantine centre in Odisha tests negative for Covid-19

Athagarh, May 28: A pangolin which was rescued from a quarantine centre in Athagarh area of Cuttack district on Tuesday has been tested negative for Covid-19, informed Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Sasmita Lenka. The pangolin was rescued from Mahulia quarantine centre in Badamba under Athagarh Forest Division in Cuttack district. “As more than 40 migrants were lodged at the quarantine centre we had decided to conduct Covid-19 test of the animal. It has been released into the forest after the test report came negative,” said Lenka. This was for the first time that a COVID-19 test was conducted on a pangolin in the country. The Centre for Wildlife Health (CWH) at OUAT in Bhubaneswar conducted the Covid testing of the five-year-old female pangolin.
