Bhubaneswar, Jan 28: Culling of chickens will begin from today as the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) confirmed outbreak of bird flu in Bhubaneswar. The report received from High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) in Bhopal confirmed presence of H1N1 influenza virus, said university’s Department of Pathology head Sushen Panda. The blood and excreta samples were sent to Bhopal laboratory following the death of chickens in OUAT’s research farm in the last 2-3 days. The dead chickens were buried to prevent spread of bird flu to nearby areas. Acting on the reports of OUAT, the state government has announced to carry out culling operation from Tuesday in 1 km radius of the farm.
