Jagatsinghpur: A day after the Supreme Court set aside the Orissa High Court’s order granting bail to industrialist Mahimananda Mishra who allegedly killed the branch manager of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Limited due to business rivalry, Mishra today surrendered before the Kujang JMFC court today.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court while setting aside the HC order directed to take Mishra into custody forthwith.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar Tuesday allowed the application of the State Government opposing the bail granted to Mishra.
Mishra, the chairman of Odisha Stevedores Ltd (OSL), had allegedly hired contract killers to kill the branch manager of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Limited, Mahendra Swain on October 26, 2016.
Mishra fled the country after the murder and after a lookout circular was issued he was traced to Thailand and was deported to India.
The High Court granted bail to Mishra on May 16, 2017, but he was released from jail only in May 2018 as he was in custody in two other cases too.
