Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today issued notice to the Odisha Government asking them to file reply to a petition challenging State Government’s decision to spend money for the implementation of KALIA scheme from the State Disaster and Contingency Fund.
The court has directed the Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary, Agriculture Secretary, Revune and Disaster Management Department Director to file their replies within four weeks.
The intervention of the High Court came a day before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launch the scheme in Puri formally on Friday.
The petitioner challenged the scheme alleging that there is no emergency arises in the State to spend money from the Contingency Fund for implementation of the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA).
Notably, the State Government has withdrawn Rs 734.66 crore from the SDCF for KALIA.
Earlier, both BJP and Congress came down heavily on the State Government for announcing KALIA scheme without making budgetary provision for this.
In the first phase, about 12 to 14 lakh beneficiaries will be provided Rs 5,000 financial assistance each.
