Opposition uproar over Speaker's ruling, House adjourned till 3 pm

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: The Opposition today stalled the assembly proceedings demanding reconsideration of Speaker's harsh ruling on publication of news by media. The Speaker was forced by unruly scenes to adjourn the House till 11.30am and then till 3 pm. As soon as the House met today, Congress and BJP members trooped into the Well in protest against the Speaker's ruling asking the media  not to  mention the name and the utterance of the MLAs who have come to Well. Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik said " The ruling is detrimental to democratic rights of the legislators The ruling was given by the Speaker yesterday, which sparked off protest by the Congress and BJP legislators. While the opposition MLAs continued their  protest today describing the ruling as "murder of democracy", the Speaker was in no mood to withdraw his ruling. He asked the Opposition members to go back to their seats and participate in the scheduled business. As the noisy scenes continued, Speaker Dr Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the proceedings till 11.30 am to bring back normalcy in the House. As a result, the Question Hour business could not be transacted. The Assembly reassembled at 11.30 am. However, the protest by Opposition members continued forcing the Speaker to adjourned the proceedings till 3 pm. As a result, important issues could not be taken up during the Zero Hour. The opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on the bus tragedy in Golanthara in Ganjam district due to electrocution that claimed 10 human lives could not also  be discussed.
