Omfed milk likely to be costlier in State

Bhubaneswar: Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment and Fisheries Minister Arun Sahoo today informed that the State Government is contemplating to hike the prices of milk prepared by State-owned Odisha State Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Omfed).

The price of Omfed milk was last hiked in 2014.

“Basing on the demand of the dairy farmers and keeping the people’s interest, the Government is now considering a hike in the prices of milk sold by Omfed,” Sahoo told media persons on the sidelines of a workshop of dairy farmers here.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Milk Farmers’ Association today also submitted a memorandum to Minister Sahoo and Food, Civil Supply and Co-operation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain demanding to fix Rs 30 per litre of milk to the milk farmers and providing milk and paneer in Mid-day meal (MDM) and Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) programmes in the State.
