Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has asked the State Home Department for paying a compensation of Rs 50000 each to two girls in connection with a custodial torture case in Nayapalli police station in Bhubaneswar in May 2018. The OHRC has also ordered for criminal prosecution against two lady Sub Inspectors of the police station and the then IIC of the police station, Sangram Pattnaik. Both the victims in their 20’s had alleged the police station staffs of the police station of brutally assaulting them in connection with a land dispute case. The victims had also shared the photographs of their injuries on Facebook, which later became viral. The victims, residents of Behera Sahi under Nayapalli police limits had alleged that police dragged both of them to the police after they received information of two groups clashing with each other over land dispute. “Police forcefully took us to the police stations and confined us in a room for around two hours. The police also beat us mercilessly with plastic pipes. The IIC of the police station was also among the group, which assaulted us. They also threatened us to send us to the jail and forwarded us to the court,” one of the victims had alleged.
