Bhubaneswar, Jan 28: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will not oppose the National Population Register. The parliamentary party of BJD on Tuesday decided to support the NPR during the Budget session of Parliament beginning on January 31. The NPR is a register of residents of India where the enumerator collects demographic and biometric data of individuals living at the place of enumeration for six months or more. However, the party will raise many other issues related to the welfare of the state including pending GST dues, Mahanadi river water dispute, revision of coal royalty and other important issues. Notably, the BJD had supported the Citizens Amendment Bill (CAB) during last session of parliament. However, later opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
