Odisha youth ends life after losing Rs 60K in online fraud

Bhawanipatna, Jan 22: A youth, cheated of Rs 60,000 by an unidentified person in an online fraud, has ended his life, as revealed by police investigations into a suicide case. Police had launched an investigation recovering body of a 23-year-old youth, identified as Pratik Barik, from rail line at Titilagarh in Balangir district on January 17. He had narrated the cause behind his decision to take the extreme step on a live video. According to police, he was playing an online game “Koun Banega Cororepati” for last few days, following which he had received a telephone call asking to deposit Rs 25,000 tax money for a Rs 25 lakh award he has won. After depositing the said amount, he was asked further to deposit Rs 20,000. In the same way he had deposited Rs 60,000 arranging from his friends asked by one Rana Pratap Singh, host of the online game. When he came to know that he was cheated, he found no option to repay the money he had borrowed and the depression led to his suicide.
