Odisha Transport dept issued 104,595 e-challans in 2019 for road safety offences

Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: The state transport department in 2019 has issued as many as 104,595 e-challans for road safety offences. As per official statistics as many as34562 violators were issued with e-challans for over speeding while 5910 were issued challans for using mobile phones while driving. Similarly the transport department has also served challans to 60726 violators for not wearing helmets and another 3397 violators were issued e-challans for drunken driving. “The figure of violators involves respective RTOs and it excludes violators detected by the police,” said a transport department official. Transport department officials said that the drive will be further intensified. “ We have also asked the concerned RTOs to act tough on drunken drivers and suspend the driving licences of violators,” added the official.
