Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: The State Transport Authority (STA) has decided to implement new Bus Body Code keeping in view the safety of passengers in Odisha from April 1.

Transport officials said that the standard design of body in the code has been prepared by the expert committee considering the safety features, comfort of seating, sleeper arrangement, stability and strength of body.

“The body of the buses can be manufactured by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and accredited bus body builders approved by testing agencies of Government of India like Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The new code is applicable to buses with capacity of 13 passengers or more excluding the driver,” said a transport official.

The STA has also asked the concerned Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) not to register buses designed without the code from April 1.
