Niali, May 25: Amid the COVID-19 lockdown in an attempt to wind down the coronavirus threat, the cyber fraudsters have been capitalizing on the fears of the people and their inability to venture out of the houses.
A man from Niali area in Cuttack district got duped of Rs 36,000 while trying to quench his thirst for the forbidden fruit.
Unable to buy alcohol amid the lockdown, Rajendra Sahoo found a shop– Kadambari Wine Shop–online which claimed alcohol. Ordering six bottles, he ended up being duped of Rs 36,000.
As per reports, the trap was laid through Facebook, where Sahoo came across a post that claimed to receive orders for home delivery of liquor from the shop which he thought to be genuine. He called up the contact number where the receiver asked him to pay Rs 950 through an online platform as advance.
Reportedly, the victim on directions of the fraudster scanned the QR code he sent to him for payment of money. Initially he paid Rs 950 and later he was asked to scan another QR code again. Once done, the victim found Rs 36,000 deducted from his account in many occassion.
