Sambalpur, Feb 27: In a bizarre incident, a car owner has been penalised Rs 1000 by traffic police for not wearing a helmet in Modipara in the district. The man identified as Chandra Kumar Behera alleged that his car was stopped by traffic police during a vehicle checking in the area. “I was to a hospital with my fine when they stopped my car and issued a challan of Rs 1000 for not wearing a helmet. I was shocked and I also questioned the traffic cops. But I was forced to pay the penalty,” alleged Behera. Behera, however, today lodged a formal complaint with the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Sambalpur. Behera has requested the RTO to cancel the challan issued against him. Earlier in November, a woman owning a car was issued with a challan of Rs 1000 for not wearing helmet in the district.
