Odisha govt starts process for developing ITIs and polytechnics to Centres of Excellence in OMBADC area

Bhubaneswar, Sep 19: In another feather to Skilled in Odisha brand, State Government has initiated the process for developing technical institutions like ITI and polytechnic to Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in OMBADC area. This was discussed in a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on digital mode from State Lokseva Bhawan wherein Secretary Skill Development and Technical Education Sanjay Kumar Singh presented the need and feasibility of such institutions. Outlining the present state of the employability of the pass outs from ITIs and Polytechnics, Secretary Singh said “There is hundred percent campus placement of the pass outs from Badbil and Jajpur Polytechnics. Modernization of the ITI, Badbil, Mining Engineering Keonjhar, ITI Rorkela, UGIE Rourkela with furnishing of IT labs, life skill classes, workshops, modern class rooms, residential facilities etc have been completed”. He added, Government of India recognized ITI Badbil as a model ITI in the country. The employability of students from other ITIs was also very high in last few years. Considering he need for CoEs, Chief Secretary Tripathy directed to develop such institutions in OMBADC area for expanding avenues of employment. Tripathy further directed to start the New Age trades in drone piloting, solar technology, smart agriculture, smart horticulture, robotic technology, mechactronics, additive manufacturing technology etc as per their demand in different ITIs and Polytechnics. Further, Tripathy advised to scale up internal resource generating activities with modern workshops and labs of these institutions so as to make the courses self-sustainable. It was decided to run the new skill classes in collaboration with industry partners as per their manpower requirement. Secretary Singh appraised, “Presently, industry collaborative CoEs are being run in ITI, Cuttack, Pattamundai and Balasore, The leading industrial houses like Maruti Suzuki, IPSC and HSIL and Schneider Electric are in collaborative partnership with these ITIs. The proposal for development of CoEs in Automation Technology at ITI Jajpur, CoE in Advanced Wielding at Polytechnic Jajpur,   CoE in thermal cutting and wielding at PCITI, Baripada, CoE in thermal cutting and wielding and Mini Tool Room at ITI Takatpur received in principle approval of the meeting. Similarly, the proposal for developing the new ITI  Karanja, ITI Udala, ITI Kaptipada,  Polytechnic Mayurbhnaj, ITI Anandpur, OSME Keonjhar, ITI Barbil, ITI Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda Engineering School, ITI Barkot, Polytechnic Deogarh, UGIE Rourkela, ITI Rourkela  to CoEs in different advanced cutting edge technology were also discussed and approved in the meeting. Review showed that 3 mini tool rooms have been commissioned at ITI Cuttack, Berhampur and Hirakud in collaboration with Central Tool & Training Center (CTTC), Bhubaneswar. The components for Indian Space Research Organization are being manufactured at ITI Cuttack. Eleven ITIs of Odisha (seven from Government and four from private sector) ranked among Top-100 ITIs of India in Phase-II ranking of the year 2019-20. Seven Government institutions included ITI Berhampur (11th), ITI, Hinjilicut (15th), ITI Jajpur (24th), ITI Jahrsuguda (45th), ITI Puri (61st), ITI Takatpur (73rd), and ITI Bhubaneswar (88th).   Similarly, four private institutions included ATI, Bhadrakh (52nd), ITI, Charampa, Bhadrakh (66th), Dalmia ITI Sundargarh (64th), and, Sriguru ITC Jagatpur, Cuttack (65th).
