Odisha govt likely to take help of fire tenders to combat locust attack

Bhubaneswar, June 2: Odiha government has decided to send voice messages and WhatsApp messages to around 6.5 lakh farmers to combat possible locust attack. This was decided in a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today. The state government has also decided to take the possible help of fire tenders to spray chemicals. Officials said that the movement of locusts will be monitored at district and block levels. “It has been decided to keep a strict vigil on movement of locusts for next 10 days. The districts which are likely to be worst affected are Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Bargarh,” said an official.    India is currently, witnessing the worst locust attack in over 7 decades as locust swarms from Pakistan now threaten to devastate crops and vegetables over thousands of hectares in several states.
