Odisha govt bans Bolbom Yatra this year for COVID-19

Bhubaneswar, July 4: The Odisha government banned the movement and congregation of Bolbom devotees this year in view of surging COVID-19 cases in the State.

The Bolbom Yatra begins from the coming Monday this year.`Bol Bom devotees’ or `Kaudia’ carry water from sacred ponds, streams or rivers , walk barefoot for several miles and pour water on Shiva lingas in famous Shiva Temples on every Monday of Holy Shravan month. However, the state government has prohibited the religious activities and congregations relating to Bolbom Yatra this year to prevent spread of Covid-19 pandemic..

State’s Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said that the Kaudias/Bol Bom devotees would not be allowed to collect water from any sacred place, walk down miles on public roads carrying water to Shiva temples during the holy Shravan month this year.
