Bhubaneswar, March 7: In order to tackle doctor shortage in the state, the Odisha government today appointed as many as 1038 doctors. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today attended the induction training programme of the newly appointed doctors at the convention centre of Kharvel Bhavan. The new doctors will be posted at Sub Divisional Hospitals, Primary Health Centres (PHC) and Community Health Centres (CHC). Sources in the state health department said that of the sanctioned 8719 posts of doctors, 5414 regular doctors are currently employed in the state. The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has recently selected 1403 doctors out of which 1038 received recruitment letters today. Officials said that the remaining doctors will also join soon. Earlier the state government has decided to increase the retirement age of doctors for contractual engagement from 68 to 70 years.
