Odisha Governor hails SUM Hospital for first ever liver transplantation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, March 11: Governor of Odisha Ganeshi Lal today congratulated and felicitated the team of doctors of IMS and Sum Hospital for successfully conducting first ever living donor liver transplantation in Odisha. The team of doctors today met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and held a discussion with them. The Governor expressed his pleasure over the transplantation and advised the doctors to continue their good work.     Prof Satya Sundar Mohapatra, Prof Premananda Patnaik, Prof Manoj Sahoo, Prof P Samantasinghar, Dr Santosh Ku Singh and Dr Debakanta Mishra were present at the Raj Bhavan on the occasion. The path breaking surgeries were conducted on 55-year-old Jayanta Biswal, a resident of Nilagiri in Balasore district, and his young son Saumya Ranjan Biswal, a B.Com student, who donated a portion of his liver on March 5. Doctors said that the health condition of both the father and son is stable. A large team had been created by IMS and SUM Hospital by inducting experts from various departments of the hospital including Gastro-intestinal surgery, Cardiology, Critical Care, Anesthesia, Nephrology, Urology, Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Hematology Lab, Path Lab, Blood Bank and Nursing. Members of the Bio-medical, Dietics and Central Sterile and Supply Department were also included in the team.
