Odisha government reiterates its demand for coal royalty revision

Bhubaneswar, 8/11: The state government today reiterated its demand for revision of coal royalty and urged the centre to denotify non coal bearing areas and take up comprehensive development in the notified areas. The demand was put forth by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during his meeting with the Union Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi here today. Reiterating the demand for coal revision, Naveen said the state government should get share from the cess collected on coal by the Central government. Besides, non coal bearing areas should be denotified and comprehensive development should be taken up in the notified areas. Quick implementation of the decisions of the Rehabilitation and Periphery Area Development Committee (RPDAC) by the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) was stressed at the meeting. The Union Minister agreed to the need for comprehensive development of the coal mining areas with a joint concerted effort. Law & order and rehabilitation & resettlement (R &R) issues of coal mining areas were also discussed at the meeting. State’s Steel & Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick and senior officials of the Central and state government were present.
