Cuttack, Nov 4: Vigilance sleuths have traced properties worth Rs 1.89 crore of Basant Kumar Bastia, Junior Engineer, Rural Development in Boinda Division in Angul district. Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday have conducted raids at four locations including the office of Bastia on allegation of acquisition of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income. Bastia was found in possession of assets worth Rs 1.89 crore including one four storied building at Niali worth Rs 89.41 lakh, one double storied building at Niali worth Rs 24.47 lakh, seven plots worth Rs 21.70 lakh, bank deposits and insurance investments worth Rs 23.72 lakh and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 14.60 lakh. Vigilance sleuths said that the search process is still continuing. “The simultaneous searches were conducted on the basis of a court warrant and further investigation in the case is continuing. We are ascertaining the actual income of the officials,” said a vigilance official. He also said that the income of the official would be calculated to ascertain the gap between the cost of assets and actual income.
