Odisha Byabasai Mahasangha appeals police not to take action on retailers carrying goods

Bhubaneswar, April 8: Steps were initiated by the state administration and stake holders to meet the shortage of vegetables and essential commodities at retail shops during lockdown. The media had highlighted the problem yesterday following which the various stake holders have woken up. General Secretary of Odisha Byabasai Mahasangha Sudhakar Panda said there was no shortage of essential commodities at the wholesale godowns but retailers are reluctant to come to wholesale market due to fear of police action especially on the two wheeler riders. Panda said they have appealed to the DG Police to ask the police personnel deployed at various intersections to allow the retailers to take their goods. On the other hand, Police Commissioner of the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Sudhansu Sekhar Sarangi said there is no restriction on the transport of goods. He asked the retail traders to contact the local police station or the help line number 100 to obtain passes. He has also instructed the police staff posted on various roads traffic intersections not to stop retailers.
