Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha-cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi, who recently joined BJP at the residence of party national president Amit Shah in New Delhi, was felicitated at the State party headquarters here.
Sarangi opted for voluntary retirement from service recently.
The former bureaucrat was accorded a rousing welcome at the party office in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state party president Basanta Panda and MLA KV Singh Deo.
In her address, Sarangi said that she joined the party keeping the people’s welfare in mind.
Speculation is rife about the former IAS officer contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Bhubaneswar. During her tenure as Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Commissioner from 2006 to 2009, she had made a mark by pioneering the concept of vending zones for street vendors and personally supervising the cleaning of the city, besides undertaking beautification drive.
