Odisha Assembly mourns Vajpayee’s demise, adjourned till Wednesday

Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly on Tuesday mourned the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, former Minister Jadunath Dass Mohapatra, former Members Suryamani Jena, Braja Kishore Mohanty and Muralidhara Kuanar and former Odisha Police Constable Sanjay Majhi and conveyed condolences to respective bereaved families.

Bringing an obituary reference, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said Vajpayee was a true democrat and upheld constitutional values throughout his life. He had a large heart and special concern for Odisha. His demise is a great loss for the Nation and people of the country. His demise is a personal loss to him, the Chief Minister said.

Similarly Patnaik turned demise of Chatarjee, Karunanidhi and others great loss for the country and the State.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said he had on many occasions met Vajpayee and he was inspired by his personality. Vajpayee believed in democracy and was an impartial leader, said Mishra.

He too expressed deep condolences over demise of Chatarjee, Karunanidhi and others.

BJP Legislature Party Leader KV Singh Deo termed Vajpayee’s demise as a great loss for the country.

He said Vajpayee had contributed a lot for development of Odisha and extended all supports during the Super Cyclone period.

In his message, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amath termed the leaders’ demise as a great loss for the country.

A two-minute silence was observed for the departed souls. After obituary, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day as a mark of respect for the departed leaders.
