Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned at 10.34 am till 3 pm on Monday as Congress members insisted cancellation of Question Hour and a discussion on the issue of paddy procurement in western Odisha.
Members were heard saying that paddy has not been procured in Bargarh, Bolangir and other districts in westerm Odisha for which farmers have taken to the streets. All paddy must be procurred from them soon.
As the Assembly met for the day, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro called Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra to give reply to a question of BJDMLA Byomokesh Ray. But Congress members stood at their respective chairs and made the above demand. As the Speaker did not listen, members like Suresh Routray, Santosh Singh Saluja, Adhiraj Mohan Panigrahi and Tara Prasad Bahinipati rushed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans in favour of their demands.
Unable to run the proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the House till 3 pm.
BJP members were absent in the House.
