Bhubaneswar: On the second day of its Winter Session on Thursday, the Odisha Legislative Assembly(OLA) was adjourned till 12 pm as Opposition BJP and Congress members again demanded suspension of the Question Hour and discussion of the suspecious death of Jajpur district’s Haridaspur PEO Smitarani Biswal.
As the House met, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro called Forests and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha to give a reply to a question of BJD member Ramesh Chandra Sai. But Congrss member Tara Prasad Bahinipati soon urged the Speaker to suspend the Question Hour and allow a discussion on the issue of “violence against women”.
As the Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro did not respond, Congress members rushed to the Well of the House and shouted anti-Government slogans. Even, Bahinipati managed to climb the Speaker’s podium.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik stood up at his chair and other members of his party BJP rushed into the Well of the House with banners in their hands. “Smitarani killing: why ruling party members being protected”, “Where did CCTV cameras.go” etc were eritten on the banners.
Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the House at 10.31 am till 12 pm.
