Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha is observing the region’s agrarian festival ‘Nuakhai’ amid much religious fervour today. The festival begins with offering of ‘Nabanna’ to Maa Samaleswari, ‘lagna’ of which has been scheduled between 8.10 am and 8.40 am today.
After Nabanna, rice prepared from newly harvested paddy, is offered to Maa Samaleswar, people will conduct puja and offer Nabanna to the goddess in their respective houses. After eating Nabanna, people observe Juhar Bhetghat (juniors offer Pranam to seniors and then they embrace each other as a mark of respect and affection).
Nuakhai is a mass festival in the entire western Odisha. On this occasion, people pray to Maa Samaleswari for good harvest and prosperity.
