Now, Congress plays women card

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik today said that priority will be given to women candidates in the upcoming elections in the State.

The development came after BJD announced to field 33 per cent women candidates in the Lok Sabha elections.

“Odisha Congress will give more tickets to women in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections as per the direction of the AICC,” informed Patnaik here.

Stating that the list of candidates for 15 Lok Sabha and 105 Assembly constituencies have been finalised, Patnaik said the list will be published on April 17 after the after its next screening committee meeting on March 16.

The first phase elections will be held on April 11 in four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly segments in the State.

Notably, the AICC Screening Committee headed by VD Satheesan scrutinized the list of candidates sent by the OPCC for the first phase Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
