Bhubaneswar: New Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, who had been asked to depose before the House Committee of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on today, i.e. October 11, is understood to have not reached the city yet.
According to reports, Abhijit has remained absconing since his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court on September 24, a day before his extended bail expired. The apex court had stated that jail was the safest place for Abhijit to stay.
The House Committee-headed by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, which is probing the derogatory remarks made by Abhijit against historic Konark Temple and Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and Odisha MLAs, had summoned to depose before it in person on October 11.
According to the noted News7 channel, Abhijit’s resident in New Delhi has been guarded by security personnel and nobody, even media reporters, is being allowed entry.
Meanwhile, some analysts feel that Abhijit might take plea of suspension of flight operation to Bhubaneswar for his failure to depose before the House Committee today.
