Sambalpur, May 23: The famous Sital Sasthi festival of Sambalpur district will be a low key affair this year. Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be no lavish home-coming procession of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Sital Sasthi Yatra, which celebrates the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, will begin in Sambalpur today. The festival will begin with the Patarapendi ritual.
The ‘Thala Utha’ ritual, which marks the beginning of preparation for Sital Sasthi Jatra, was also performed in a low-key manner in Shiva temples across the city on Sunday.
However, there will be no lavish carnival this year due to coronavirus outbreak and the resultant nationwide lockdown. Moreover, no artistes and tableaus will be made for the procession during the observation of the festival. While earlier the procession was an overnight affair, this year it will be carried out only from 7 am to 4 pm.
During the celebration of the famed festival, all the government guidelines and social norms will be followed.
The ‘Thala Utha’ ritual was held on April 27 without any fanfare.
