Bhubaneswar, July 22: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) with technical support from ICMR - RMRC carried out a serological survey among the general population of the city. In the first round of surveillance community pockets were covered where 951 samples drawn. Analysis of samples has been completed and interim report submitted by the study team of RMRC. It has been found that community level exposure to SARS Cov 2 virus is relatively low with a pooled Seroprevalence of 1.42%. “This implies that large scale transmission has probably not occurred in the city. Hence it is not ethical to pass on or disseminate panic messages. A large majority of the population is still susceptible to the infection and hence all preventive measures of social distancing, use of masks among others prescribed by the government needs to be adhered without complacency,” said an official. The team is collecting samples from selected high risk groups at present and a full report will be submitted after analysis of the same.
