The faculty members of NM Institute of Engineering & Technology celebrated International Day of Yoga (IDY) with full vigor and enthusiasm in the college campus today. Yoga trainer, Sj. Pitambar Sahu conducted anhour-long session wherein the staff members actively participated. In order to educate the younger generations about the importance of yoga, the children of the faculty members were also invited to partake. Sj. Sahu demonstrated popular yoga aasanas like Ardha Matsyendrasana, Janu Sirsasana, Bhujangasana, Bakasana, Trikonasana and basic pranayam. He also enlightened the audience on how yoga eliminates the probability of heat attack, high blood pressure, obesity and infertility. Present on this occasion were Prof. PK Swain, Vice Principal; Ms. Shilpa Parida, Director, PR along with other HODs and faculty members. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared an international day for yoga unanimously in 2014. Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested the date of 21st June.
Expressing her views on the occasion, Shilpa Parida, Director of PR said, “In today’s age, it is important that human beings work towards having inner peace, a healthy mind and a healthy body. That is exactly what yoga does for you. A healthy person can achieve more and will be happier. As per AICTE guidelines yoga is now a part of the course curriculum. By celebrating International Day of Yoga, we want our students to understand the rewards of practicing yoga from a young age.”
