New Delhi, Jan17: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday rejected mercy plea of Nirbhaya case convict Mukesh Singh. The plea was forwarded to him by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Delhi LG had sent the mercy petition of Mukesh to MHA on Thursday after Delhi government recommended rejection of the mercy petition on Wednesday evening. Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Kumar Singh and Pawan Gupta were to be hanged at Delhi’s Tihar Jail at 7 am on January 22. A Delhi court had issued their death warrants on January 7. It may be recalled that the four were convicted by the Patiala House Court for raping and killing a paramedical student of Delhi in a running bus in 2012 December. However, a minor convict was released from jail after serving sentence for three years.
