‘Niladri Nilaya Yojana’ to rehabilitate beggars kickstarts in Puri

Puri, March 3: The Puri District Administration today started ‘Niladri Nilaya Yojana’ to make the city beggar free. A team from Collectorate with the help of NGO brought beggars from Badadanda area abd rehabilitated them in shelter homes providing food, clothes and medicines. Officials said that more than 30 beggars, including some elderly persons, differently-abled were rescued from the Badadanda area and then shifted into shelter homes after counselling A total of eight Niladri Nilayas or rehabilitation centres for beggars will function in Puri district. The Niladri Nilaya Yojana in the district has launched with assistance from the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department. Apart from providing food and shelter facilities, the district administration will take steps to bring the beggars to the mainstream society. Worth mentioning, SSEPD Minister Ashok Chandra Panda had informed Assembly that Puri has 366 beggars.
