Newborn boy stolen from Patnagarh hospital rescued, two arrested

Bolangir: Bolangir police today rescued the newborn boy who was allegedly stolen by a woman from the Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital on March 6.

Police arrested two persons, happens to be a couple, for their alleged involvement in the incident from Nuapada and also seized the motorcycle used to steal the baby boy.

One Jayanti Tandi of Telenapalli village had given birth to a baby boy last Sunday. On Wednesday morning, an unidentified woman wearing the uniform of an ASHA worker came near the woman and took the four-day-old boy on pretext of checking his health condition. After a few minutes, she fled with the baby.

Soon after the incident, Jayanti’s husband Rudramani lodged a complaint with the police. Bolangir SP K Siva Subramani formed special team to nab the accused woman and others involved in the crime.
