Koraput, July 29: At a time while corona positive cases are increasing day by day in the state, few politicians in the district have openly ‘violated’ the COVID-19 guidelines.

According to sources, the last rites of a Youth Congress leader, Laxman Nayak, were performed at Boipariguda today. Hundreds of local politicians including Former MLA Nimain Sarkar and Krishna Chandra Sagaria were present at the funeral.

However, all most all of them were seen violating the COVID guidelines and not following social distancing norm. This apart, many of the attendees were seen not wearing mask.

Worth mentioning, the Odisha government on July 8 had allowed marriage and funeral-related functions during the COVID-19 pandemic with restrictions..As per the order, funeral and its related functions would be held with prior permission (in writing or through electronic communication) of the local police station.

The number of persons participating in the funeral function including the family members, relatives, friends, priests, drivers & staff of vehicles and others taken together shall not exceed 20 (Twenty). At least 2 meter physical distance shall be maintained between individuals during the funeral.
