Bhubaneswar, March 7: Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik today surprised one and all while announcing the party nominees for the coming Rajya Sabha elections. {"id":29663,"sizeSlug":"large"} Speculations about the possible BJD candidates for the four Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant from the state were proved wrong when Naveen announced the names of Subhas Singh, Munna Khan, Sujit Kumar and Mamata Mahanta. None of their names were speculated. Unpredictable as he is, Naveen surprised the media and party men as none expected these persons to be nominated by the ruling party to the Upper House this time. None of them were celebrities nor were they drafted from the outside. Party insiders said they were rewarded by the supremo for their contribution to the party. While hard worker Subhas Singh was rewarded for his organisational ability and his influence on the labour class, Munna Khan's role as a social activist and minority face in the party was recognised. The nomination of Sujit Kumar was most surprising. His activities were very silent, mainly related to the management of social sites. An MBA from the Oxford University and a post graduate in Public Administration from the Havard University, he was advisor to the Special Development Council. He was also looking after party's organisational affair in undivided Kalahandi district. The other party nominee Mamata Mahanta associated with the party's womens' wing in Mayurbhanj is known for her contribution to the women empowerment, setting up of women self help groups and their successful management in the tribal-dominated district.
