Naveen sanctions Rs 100 cr for livelihood of urban poor amid coronavirus pandemic

Bhubaneswar, April 18: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today sanctioned Rs 100 crore under a new scheme 'Urban Wage Employment Initiative' for urban poor to help them financially amid coronavirus pandemic. Over 4.5 lakh urban poor families will be benefitted under this new scheme through creation of employment opportunity. The special program will be implemented in 114 urban local bodies of the state to help the economically backward class people, a release from the Chief Minister’s Office read. It will be implemented with the help and cooperation of the Mission Shakti members from April to September this year and the beneficiaries of this program will receive their remuneration weekly through bank accounts. Works like desilting of drains, digging and renovating water bodies, development of parks, playgrounds and other amenities, forestation, setting up of SHG offices, public toilets and urban beautification will be conducted under the scheme while local artisans and workers will be given works such as creating wall paintings and murals. All these works will be undertaken by strict adherence to social distancing norms.
