Bhubaneswar: BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today chaired party’s first parliamentary party meeting at his residence.
All the 12 newly-elected MPs of the party attended the meeting.
While Pramila Bisoyi won from Aska Lok Sabha constituency defeating BJP’s Anita Subhadarshini, in the politically sensitive Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda was defeated by BJD candidate and Rajy Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty. In Puri, Pinaki Mishra of the BJD defeated BJP’s Sambit Patra while, Bhartruhari Mahta retained his Cuttack Lok Sabha seat by defeating BJP’s Prakash Mishra.
Sarmistha Sethi won from Jajpur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency by defeating her nearest BJP rival Amiya Kanta Mallick while Manjulata Mandal won from Bhadrak, Chandrasekhar Sahu from Berhampur, Chandrani Murmu from Keonjhar, Mahesh Sahu from Dhenkanal, Achyuta Samanta from Kandhamal, Rajashree Mallick from Jagatsinghpur and Ramesh Majhi from Nabarangpur.
While the BJD has secured 12 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP won eight and the Congress managed to get one.
