SUBRAT DAS Bhubaneswar, May 29: Three formidable challenges confronted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, which he successfully overcame, during the first year of his fifth term that completed today. One of the longest-serving chief ministers, Naveen had been elected for the fifth consecutive term last year. People of Odisha reposed faith on him for his dedicated service. During the new term he launched ‘Mo Sarkar’ and ‘5T Initiative’ to directly connect to the people. The Chief Minister entrusted the supervision of 5T to trusted aide V K Pandian and started calling various state scheme beneficiaries at the grassroots level to know the feedback about proper implementation of the schemes. Though the BJP which came to power for the second term at the national level and the saffron party had improved its performance in the panchayat polls in Odisha, Naveen romped home to power for the fifth term last year proving all speculations wrong. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by him won 112 seats out of 147 Assembly seats in the state. The people’s support was his greatest strength and realising this Naveen has initiated steps in his fifth term to come closer to the people by launching ‘Mo Sarkar’ and ‘5T’. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and two consecutive natural calamities FANI and AMPHAN had emerged as challenges before Naveeen. But his successful management of these calamities has earned accolades from various quarters including his political rival the BJP.
