Bhubaneswar: Nabarangpur SP Vivekananda Sharma has been pushed into controversy again as a cable operator has brought allegations of assault against him.
The victim, Babula Hota of Senapati Sahi, alleged that he was beaten up by the SP severely as he didn’t offer a namaskar to him. Babula was repairing the cable in the SP quarter when the top cop came and wanted to know what he was doing there. When he said he was repairing cable, the SP thrashed him severely saying “Don’t you recognise me? I am SP. Why didn’t you offered a namskar to me,” the SP told Babula and thrashed him, as alleged by the victim.
Soon after the incident, other police officers reportedly offered money, a pair of new pant and shirt and other things to Babula and asked him not to go inform the incident to media reports.
The matter came to the fore and Pradesh Congress Committee working president and former Nabarangpur MP protested the alleged act and threatened that the party would hold a bandh in Nabarangpur town if the SP doesn’t beg apology to Babula soon by December 4.
“In an individual had attacked any other individual the way the SP did, it would have attracted an attempted to murder case. The SP has committed the case and he should be booked,” said a local Congress leader.
