Cuttack: The last rites of CRPF jawan, Manoj Kumar Behera, who was killed in a terror attack in Pulwama, was held in his native village at Ratanpur in Niali area in Cuttack district today. Thousands of people, including from neighbouring areas, paid their last respects to Manoj.
Manoj is survived with his wife and one-year-old daughter.
Villagers raised slogans like “Saheed Manoj Kumar Amar Rahe” and also against Pakistan. The last rites were conducted with full State honours.
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena represented the Central and State Governments, respectively.
The jawan’s body, draped in tricolour, was brought in a CRPF vehicle to his native village from Bhubaneswar airport. Senior district administration officials were also present during the funeral.
Besides Manoj, another Odia CRPF jawan Prasanna Sahu of Parisikhar in Naugaon area in Jagatsinghpur was also martyred in the terror attack.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Ministers Pradhan and Oram, Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma and leaders cutting across party lines paid their rich tributes to the two martyred jawans at the airport.
