Bhubaneswar: The Director General of Police (DGP) today directed the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) to take up investigation into the death of a minor boy at a dhaba under Baliapala police limits in Balasore district that triggered outrage among locals, who on Friday thrashed the Baliapala PS IIC.
DGP Dr RP Sharma referred the probe to the HRPC after tension continued to prevail in the locality for second day in a row. A team of HRPC led by DSP Ranjit Naik will probe the matter.
Meanwhile on Saturday, the Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) transferred Balapala PS IIC Prabhu Kalyan Acharya. Acharya has been attached with District Police Headquarters.
Remuna police station Inspector in-charge (IIC) Ranjit Kumar Sahu took over as the IIC of Baliapal PS.
However, tension continued to prevail in Baliapal area today as post-mortem of the minor boy was reportedly conducted in the absence of his family members.
Irate locals detained the driver of an ambulance and two police staff near at Uluda Chhak on Kamarda-Baliapal road demanding adequate compensation and action against the accused.
On Friday, the angry mob chased and thrashed IIC Acharya after the minor boy was found hanging inside the dhaba near IDCO Chhak.
