Bhubaneswar, Feb 7: A delegation of Ashok Nagar Citizen’s Committee, an organization of residents of the area today met the state Housing and Urban Development minister Pratap Jena in protest against a decision of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to set up a micro composting centre on a land which was earlier proposed for a children’s park. The association members said that the one acre plot was earlier earmarked for a children’s park in the master plan. “Late Biju Patnaik has announced to set up a park on the plot for recreational activities of the children and senior citizens staying in one of the oldest residential areas of the state capital. Though the government plot was handed over to the civic body several decades ago for construction of the park, BMC is yet to set up the park. Instead, the civic authorities are now planning to set up a micro composting unit on the spot which will deprive the children and senior citizens of breathing space,” said secretary of the committee, Subrat Das. The committee members also said that the minister has assured of taking appropriate action in this connection.
