Medium scale flood may hit Puri, says Planning Board Dy Chairman Sanjay Das Burma

Puri, Aug 29: Odisha State Planning Board Deputy Chairman Sanjay Das Burma held a meeting over flood situation in Puri district here on Saturday.

Burma instructed that the vulnerable points of embankment should be closely monitored as Daya, Bharagavi, Makara, Luna and Ratnachira, rivers are expected to receive 5 lakhs cusecs of water from Mahanadi system and will be discharged to Chilika system by the rivers.

Burma has expected that a medium scale flood will hit Puri district and asked the district administration officials to make necessary arrangements like deployment of NDRF, ODRAF, medical facilities, and supply of safe drinking water to the affected people. 

He also said that the district administration should also ready for relief and restoration work.

Besides, he instructed the revenue authorities to assess crop loss in time after the flood.

Puri Collector Balwant Singh said that a meeting was taken with all BDOs and IICs yesterday through video conference and stated that the administration is prepared to face any type of eventualities.

ADMs Pradeep Kumar Sahu, Subash Nath Sharma, Sub-Collector  Bhabartana  Sahu, Superintendent Engineer  Central Circle Chinmay Rout and EE drainage  Bhagban Chandra Das  were present in the meeting.
